Bunch of Guys Having Fun - My Impression

I'm thinking Don Martin and the Guys from Mad Magazine had a Blast in the 60's each day they went to work. I'm not too sure you would call this work, from my point of view - it looks like so much fun!
Hilarious ideas streaming through a work of art creating funny cartoons such as the one above. In the late 1960's was a time of the sexual revolution and freedom of expression which has been lost so much today. Back then, it you find someone smoking a referer in a group without any conflict or confictions. Today, a joint can lead you into a three strike rule ( a very Red Flag Rule government) that only can lead to subpression by "Big Brother".

This is what our society has come to ( above pic) Our stock market has become overbearing with greed and distroying peoples lives on a regular basis - sending our economy to the the flusher. If you look back to the late 1960's you will find that people were happier with themselves and happier with each other. Today - people are beginning not to trust anyone - now what kind of society is that?
Maybe we should think to being a free society, a loving society and begin once again to draw cartoons that reflect our carefree spirit.

Remember Mad - Cartoon Artist - Don Martin

Mad Magazine and Cartoonist

As any other kid in the 1970 -80's I was introduced to a favorite of my - MAD MAGAZINE and cartoonist Don Martin.

Don Martin (May 18, 1931 - January 6, 2000) was a popular American cartoon artist whose best-known work appeared in MAD magazine from 1956 to 1988.

Martin often was billed as "MAD's Maddest Artist." Whereas other features in MAD, recurring or otherwise, typically were headed with pun-filled "department" titles, Martin's work always was headed with only his name - "Don Martin Dept." - further fanfare presumably being unnecessary.

At his peak, each issue of MAD typically carried three Martin strips of one or two pages each.

Martin's immediately recognizable drawing style (which featured bulbous noses, and the famous "hinged foot") was loose, rounded, and filled with broad slapstick. His inspirations, plots and themes were often bizarre and at times bordered on the berserk.

Becoming a cartoonist like Don Martin takes the love of art to a whole new meaning. And this is when I decided to get into the world as a cartoonist

I work independently with my own company : 201ART and distribute my "ART WORKS" throughout North America. You might know me in Twitter as an artist and zanneeee... cartoonist : ARTTWITT

Art to me is not a job but the love of my life - I love to be a cartoonist and this is what having your own company is all about.
I never care about the hours I put in or how many days I will create my art.
To me - ART CARTOONIST/ COMICS are so much fun to do.  If your interested as an up-coming cartoon artist I highly suggest DREAMWORKS   in California after you have graduated from a recognized art school.

Also, you most probably are into comics and cartoons already. Read and re-read your favourite and keep in tune with what is going on in the world of art

Golden Age Comics - Best Kept Secret

Robotman and ...
Who Was Jimmy Thompson?

Thompson, a former newspaper-strip artist, had worked anonymously on several syndicated features for the Philadelphia Ledger, including the pioneering Sunday feature "Hairbreadth Harry." Thompson entered comic books in their infancy. His first features were serious, well-told accounts of Native American life and culture. In this vein, he created what is, arguably, the first graphic novel, the 64-page Red Eagle, for publisher David McKay in mid-1938.

Become Your Own Cartoon Artist
His greatest volume of published work, as with many other 1940s comic book artists, was in the super-hero genre. Thompson worked for Timely, Fawcett, DC and Famous Funnies in the '40s. His artwork can be found on features such as "Mary Marvel," "The Human Torch," "The Angel" and "Sub-Mariner."

Flashes of Thompson's individuality peek out from his pre-"Robotman" work for Timely and Fawcett. As their comics were, by and large, assembly-line production, it was tough for any single artist to stand out.

Thompson's entry in the super-hero world occurred when the genre was in a rut. By 1943, the comic-book industry was in high gear. Demand for comics by servicemen pushed publishers to increase their output--and to cut corners. Quantity, not quality, was the order of the day. The medium's great formal innovators were at war (Will Eisner, Jack Kirby), distanced from their creations (Siegel and Shuster were gone from their "Superman" feature), or settled into generic "house styles."

Thompson's career is one of the most rewarding - becoming ancartoon artist today is much more rewarding  with the right education and tools.

While this generic approach cut corners for publishers and enabled best-selling titles to appear regularly and reliably, it robbed comic books of their pre-war distinctiveness. Outstanding work still appeared. Jack Cole's output for Quality Comics got better and more confident with each passing year. Writers such as Alfred Bester and Bill Finger enlivened the super-hero genre with clever scripts. Innovative artists like Mort Meskin, Klaus Nordling, Dick Briefer, Bob Powell and Joe Kubert began to hit their stride.
